PSP hits 10 Million Sales Mark in Japan

Sony's Playstation Portable, PSP, has finally surpassed the 10 million sales mark in Japan, after just over 3 years.

The console, which was released in December 2004 in Japan, lays this success on a few key games.
The top two games on the system, by a long shot, are both Monster Hunter titles. Monster Hunter 2nd G has shifted almost 2.4 million copies, with the similarly-named Monster Hunter 2nd clocking up 1.7 million sales. Crisis Core trails in third on just under 800,000 sales, which isn't bad considering it hasn't been out that long.

Then it's more Monster Hunter Portable, with just under 670,000 sales and Phantasy Star Portable with 550,000.
Whilst its good to see the PSP is holding its own in a market that has been dominated by Nintendo for so long, the PSP's figurers still look pale in comparison to the Nintendo DS, which his the 20 million sales mark in Japan last year and has sold nearly 80 million worldwide.
