Saints Row Collectors Edition Revealed

THQ has announced that the Saints Row 2 Collectors Edition Bundle will come with a Gun shaped box and a bullet shaped USB stick, THQ has told Eurogamer that this bundle is exclusive to the xbox 360.

Obviously it's a bit difficult to fit a DVD inside a Beretta, but judging by the picture of the Xbox 360 version (see below), the idea is that the box is like a gun mounted in a frame, and the disc lives somewhere behind the veneer.

It's not alone, either, with a 1GB USB key in the shape of a golden bullet to keep it company, along with a 3rd Street Saints poster (a woman blowing the smoke away from the barrel of her man's gun) and a map of Stilwater, the game's sandbox location.

If you're more of a thinker than a brute, there's even an exclusive limited edition artbook so you can admire developer Volition's hustle, and particularly devoted consumers can also take advantage of exclusive content "including buddy icons and wallpapers".

There has so far been no word as to whether a separate collectors edition will release on the ps3 or pc.

Playstation Store Update: The Last Guy

Its that time of the week again where the playstation network store gets updated, and this week seems to be carrying on the recent good form of Sony's store updates, delivering several decent items.

The biggest part of the update is the addition of "The Last Guy", a quirky top down zombie game where the protagonist has to lead groups of survivors to safety whilst zombie hordes are snapping at their heels. IGN gave The Last Guy a 9/10 score, awarding it with an editors choice award so this is certainly a game to try out, there is also a demo online for anyone who isn't convinced.

The entire update includes:

  • The Last Guy (full game) - £4.99
  • The Last Guy (demo) - free
  • Warhawk "Operation Fallen Star" DLC - £3.99
  • NHL 09 Demo (free)
  • Buzz! Junior Jungle Party - £3.49
  • Trailers (HAWX, Far Cry 2, SSHD tips vids)
  • New Graffiti theme - free
  • Pipe Mania (demo) - PSP
So overall a very pleasing update from Sony, a must have PSN game and more Downloadable Content for Warhawk, there should be something for everyone here.

PSP hits 10 Million Sales Mark in Japan

Sony's Playstation Portable, PSP, has finally surpassed the 10 million sales mark in Japan, after just over 3 years.

The console, which was released in December 2004 in Japan, lays this success on a few key games.
The top two games on the system, by a long shot, are both Monster Hunter titles. Monster Hunter 2nd G has shifted almost 2.4 million copies, with the similarly-named Monster Hunter 2nd clocking up 1.7 million sales. Crisis Core trails in third on just under 800,000 sales, which isn't bad considering it hasn't been out that long.

Then it's more Monster Hunter Portable, with just under 670,000 sales and Phantasy Star Portable with 550,000.
Whilst its good to see the PSP is holding its own in a market that has been dominated by Nintendo for so long, the PSP's figurers still look pale in comparison to the Nintendo DS, which his the 20 million sales mark in Japan last year and has sold nearly 80 million worldwide.

MGO servers Updated

Konami hasnt got the best track record for online gaming, PES08 having frankly awful online problems and Metal Gear Online also suffering from Gremlins.

The main MGO game servers have been receiving server maintenance over the last few weeks, this has caused some disruption to the game, however Konami are saying that the maintenance is finished for now.

The updates include:
"1)Players will gain 5 reward points when they have finished a round in the automatching lobbies 'SNAKE:EX', 'LIQUID:EX' and 'SOLIDUS:EX'.

"*The lobbies 'SNAKE:EX', 'LIQUID:EX' and 'SOLIDUS:EX' are only available for users who have bought the 'MGO GENE EXPANSION'.

"2)A new Survival Lobby 'MK2' has been added."
So nothing drastic but any update can only be a good update (unless it breaks the game).

Savage Moon Coming to PSN

Rumours have been floating around the internet since July that Sony had a secret game up its sleeve. Well it looks like today they have chosen to reveal that card.

The now not so mysterious game, entitled savage moon, a frantic tower defence game with a gritty sci-fi setting exclusive to the Playstation Network...or at least thats what Sony are saying.
Savage Moon is a frantic, action-packed tower defense game in a gritty sci-fi setting. You are tasked with protecting mining facilities from ravenous space bugs using some truly fearsome weaponry. And you’ll need as much strategy as firepower as you fend off wave after wave.

Savage Moon is addictive and the action is relentless, making it fun no matter what your skill level is. The action is intense, but you also have to think and have a solid strategy to survive. The best players can even post their scores to the online leader boards to see how they stack up.
Looks like another solid PSN title for the ps3, the library of downloadable games for the ps3 is growing quite rapidly now, this looks like a great little game.

Rumour - Xbox 360 to get a price cut in Japan

A Japanese retailer is rumoured to have let slip about an upcoming Xbox 360 Price cut in Japan. Following last weeks boost in Xbox 360 sales, Japanese retailer "Bic Camera" apparently leaked information on the price drop on its website, before taking the information down.
Xbox 360 Arcade: MSRP: ¥19,799

Xbox 360 Elite: MSRP: ¥39,800
However, this is strictly classed as rumour, there are no images or proof otherwise to bolster this accusation. Maybe we can expect to hear more at the Tokyo Game Show this year.

Vote for Resistance 2 cover

Insomniac games clearly feel the need to include the gaming community with their projects, Ted Price, President and CEO of Insomniac Games has today announced that fans will be able to have their say in the final version of upcoming ps3 exclusive title Resistance 2. By following the link, fans can vote for their for the cover art of the collectors edition, the 3 examples are shown at the top of the page.
When a game is all finished up and burned to the disc that you'll eventually pop into your console, it also needs a couple other things to get it safely to store shelves and into your hands: a box, an instruction manual of some sort, and, perhaps most importantly, a good cover to not only set the mood but wrangle in potential gamers as well.

One game that's going to need some sort of cover for its release later this year is Resistance 2. Or, more specifically, the Collector's Edition of the game. The problem is that Insomniac has narrowed the choice down to three potential covers, but the studio can't seem to make up its mind. So they're turning to you.

Here's what Ted Price, president and CEO of Insomniac Games, has to say about the conundrum:

"Insomniac takes community feedback seriously. We interview our fans on the Full Moon Show podcast. We created an R&D website serving aspiring game developers. And we hang out on the forums until the wee hours. We've even polled fans to select which hapless animal enemies turn into when firing the Morph-O-Ray in Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (sorry, penguin-lovers).

"Now, we turn to the community with an even bigger question: Which image do you want to see on your Resistance 2 Collector's Edition cover? While you may think developing the game is our biggest challenge at Insomniac, we agonize almost equally over important details like creating and choosing the box art. And this time, we've got three solid images that are making the decision especially difficult. We're torn, and want to know what you think. So vote! We'll be eagerly awaiting your feedback, as always."

Here are the three images. Click on each image for a larger version, and then vote by clicking one of the email links below. And hurry, because you won't be able to vote for long.

Mirrors Edge is Not a Timed PS3 Exclusive - EA

EA has debunked rumours that their upcoming title Mirrors Edge would launch as a Playstation 3 timed exclusive.

A German tech site quoted David Reeves from the Leipsig 08 Convention as saying that the title would launch as a PS3 exclusive:
The PS3 will be continuously supplied with exclusive games: “We are continuously, month after month publish new titles that bring something unique and different target groups. In a month, it is Gran Turismo, in the next SingStar, as well as Third-Party Title as mirrors Edge by Electronic Arts are part of this strategy. “ According to Reeves Mirrors Edge will initially exclusively for the PS3 this year. PC and Xbox 360 versions would follow much later.
However, EA have put an end to any rumour of it being a timed exclusive, by saying:
Mirror’s Edge will be shipping this winter on PS3, XBOX360 and PC. Mirror’s Edge will not be a timed exclusive for PS3.
Looks settled then, the game will not be exclusive to any platform for any length of time.
