Infinity Ward working on Sci-Fi game

Infinity Ward (the team behind Call of Duty 1, 2 and 4) are definitely working on a Sci-Fi shooter according to Xbox 360 World magazine.
"The net is awash with rumour mongering that Infinity Ward are beavering away on a brand new sci-fi shooter," says the mag. "However, we can confirm that it is definitely happening."
Apparently, a staff member of the magazine became aware of the news at a Call of Duty 4 event but Activision have been blocking the news for surfacing until now.

Speaking on its websites blog, infinity Ward had this to say about the prospects of working on a new IP:
"We're excited to announce that in the recent months we have decided to reup on our contract with Activision publishing," the developer said in the post. "The recently renegotiated deal may not seem like much of an impact from the outside perspective, but it has laid the ground work and kick started our future project, as well as the possibility of a unique new IP by Infinity Ward, that we'll have complete control over
"We're excited to be working on our next project, but it's going to be quite a while before I can share any details on exactly what that project is."
It has been suggested that Infinity Ward were angry with Activision at not being able to have full control over the Call of Duty IP (which it created), nothing has been said as to whether this next title is a Call of Duty one or a new IP, however, seeing as Treyarch are working on Call of Duty 5 this could be enough to push IF to abandon Call of Duty all together to work on new projects, hopefully we will learn more at E3.
